Funding Announcements

Purpose:

• Fund prehospital care research projects that investigate the factors driving less than optimal outcomes for trauma patients
• Support for early career investigators

Applicants:

• Graduate students, medical students, post-doctoral fellows, medical residents, medical fellows, and faculty at the University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota-Duluth/Essentia Healthcare, Hennepin County Medical Center, North Memorial Hospital, Regions Hospital, and St. Cloud Hospital are eligible to apply.

Support:

• Access to datasets; study design, analyst, and biostatistical support
• Mentoring
• Funding for presentation of results at a national meeting

Timeline:

• Rolling deadline
• 6-month support with possible extension

Overview: The Translational Center for Resuscitative Trauma Care at the University of Minnesota (TCRTC), invites applications for pilot scale research projects with a focus on prehospital trauma care including rural trauma care, wound management, infection prevention, prolonged field care, point of injury care, and resuscitation. 

Eligibility: The focus of this grant program is to support the work of early career investigators defined as within 7 years of their first academic appointment. Investigators who have received an R01 or equivalent grant are not eligible for this program.

Funding Amount and Project Period: TCRTC Pilot Project awardees along with their local mentor(s) will conduct research studies with guidance from senior TCRTC investigators.  Project costs of up to $100,000 (Direct Cost) over a 12-month period will be awarded.

The Uniformed Services University (USU) Office of the Vice President for Research is offering up to $30.5M in funding for research projects that address specific healthcare and leadership focus areas of the Department of Defense. Proposed research must include collaboration with at least one of the following USU partners: University of Minnesota Medical School, Fairview Health Services, and/or Medical Alley.

Proposed research projects must be focused on one of the following topics and focus areas. Cross organizational collaborations and inclusion of trainees (medical, nursing, graduate, or undergraduate students) are encouraged:

• Behavioral Health

• Infectious Disease

• TBI and Secondary Injury

• Trauma

In the last federal budget Congress included funding for a new partnership between Minnesota (University of Minnesota Medical School, Medical Alley and Fairview) and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU).  We implemented this by creating a grant program aimed at health issues that impact the military, are important to our community, and where our strengths can bring impact to the field. Investigator teams were invited to apply for funding for collaborative research projects and ultimately 13 grants were awarded to teams from USU and Minnesota partners.

 We are happy to announce that the Congressional budget for this year included funding for this program for 2023. We anticipate sharing the details of our process for this year in the near future.

Turning Science into Health: Overcoming Barriers in Translation

The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) provides over $5.6 million in funding and awards annually to support and nurture the University’s systemwide research enterprise.

The following grants and awards are open to all campuses and are supported by funds from a variety of sources, including technology commercialization revenue. Grant proposals are reviewed by a committee of UMN peers.
